2007 Rondoletto, Domaine St Esteve, Vin De Pays De La Mediterranee Red Wine Adnams Acquired by the Français-Monier family in 1809, this honey-coloured property is one of few on the Massif d'Uchaux (east of Mont Ventoux, north of Orange) with deep underground cellars. Much has been made of this attractively-vaulted feature, which, like the rest of the place, is well-maintained and luxurious. A striking contrast, at times, with the stony, sandy terroir outside: Mistral winds fairly rip through the surrounding vines, forests and scrubland, and the sun beats down relentlessly in summer. A sturdy band of workers tends the land here, and Rondoletto, an easygoing, harmonious blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre, with raspberryish, peppery flavours, is their favoured lunchtime drinking.
